The creation account in Genesis has always been a favorite passage for me. So much so that I have spent a significant amount of time studying it over the years on my own.
What really sparked my interest in the early chapters of Genesis was a seminar I went to very early in my ministry career. It was held in an old VFW building, which wasn’t very large, and the group presenting was brought in by several area churches working together. And they had some incredible dinosaur fossils, including a T-Rex skull!
That presentation was by the Creation Truth Foundation, and little did I know how closely they would become intertwined in my life.
Over the years, I attended seminars and presentations of other creation ministries, such as Answers In Genesis, and Creation Ministries International. We even scheduled Creation Truth Foundation to come to our church, more than once. And the response has been incredible.
It seems like people have a longing to understand our origins, and Genesis holds the answers to that question.
I decided to deepen my studies, pursuing a Master’s degree. My school of choice was an easy decision. The Institute for Creation Research offers a degree program through their School Of Biblical Apologetics, which includes several options for advanced degrees.
I enrolled and have been working through that program for a while now. One of the best things about it, is completely self-paced, and all online. That allows me to proceed at my own pace, as my ministry allows, and as my finances permit.
As a part of that program, I have seen a need to create a resource that can help people understand the importance of biblical apologetics, and especially the truth and reliability of Genesis. Much of the world has discarded the early chapters of Genesis as myth, or a nice story, and has accepted that evolutionary science knows more than God about our origins.
I flatly reject that idea. Our creation, along with our purpose, our identity, and our destiny are clearly laid out in the Bible.
And I want to help people understand that idea and see just how foundational the Bible is in understanding the world around us. I want to help people see just how important it is to view all of life through the lens of the Bible, to develop a solid biblical worldview.
To that end, I have created a new website called Reading Genesis. Through this online resource, I hope to provide tools that will encourage and equip others to understand and defend the historical reliability of Genesis, as well as the rest of Scripture.
1 Peter 3:15 gives us a pretty clear directive for the discipline of apologetics. He writes, “…but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence…”
The book of Genesis, as well as the rest of Scripture, is truth. It is reliable. And it is defensible.
