Top Posts For September 2013

Leaves are starting to turn. There is a chill in the air in the mornings. Bonfires and s’mores are staples. The hoodies have come out of the closet. Football games attract the whole town on Friday nights.

It’s fall. And winter is just around the corner.

We missed this season last year. We lived in Florida, and we wore shorts outside and walked on the beach on Christmas day. This year, we are back in the Ozarks, and looking forward to these crisper and cooler seasons after missing them. When we tell people this, they think we’re crazy. And that may be true, but my whole family is looking forward to cold weather for a change.

Though the weather may be starting to cool off, things at JeffRandleman.com are staying pretty hot. So, in case you missed them, here are my top seven posts for the month of September:

  1. The Difference Between Purpose, Vision, and Mission
  2. Why You Need To Develop A Philosophy Of Ministry
  3. Trying A New Bible Reading System
  4. Book Review – Sacred Pathways by Gary Thomas
  5. Book Review – Chronicles Of Dinosauria by Dave Woetzel
  6. 3 Characteristics Of A Bad Communicator
  7. 7 Steps To Defining A Purpose And Vision For Youth Ministry

The norm over the past several months has been to see several of the articles on purpose, vision and mission make the list. These are from the Foundations of Youth Ministry series, and they generate more traffic to my site than anything else I’ve written right now. That’s pretty exciting. And now that I’ve transitioned out of youth ministry, I’m considering a revision of these to reflect my experiences as a lead minister.

Top Posts For August 2013

Fall has arrived! Even though the heat of summer is still hanging around, school has started, Friday evenings are full of football, and I have an incredible urge to roast hot dogs over a bonfire.

After a busy summer getting settled into our new routine, in a new ministry and location, it feels good to be settling in and getting established in our home, our church and our community.

Although fall will probably be just as busy as the summer has been, I’m looking forward to what it brings. I have a lot of things on the horizon for JeffRandleman.com, and though it may take some time to get them all accomplished and implemented, I am looking forward to the work involved. So stay tuned, some pretty cool things are coming.

In case you missed them, here are my top seven posts for the month of August:

  1. The Difference Between Purpose, Vision, and Mission
  2. Why You Need To Develop A Philosophy Of Ministry
  3. Trying A New Bible Reading System
  4. 7 Steps To Defining A Purpose And Vision For Youth Ministry
  5. A New Bible Reading Plan – 9 Months Later
  6. 10 Benefits Of Consistent Journaling
  7. My Current Philosophy Of Ministry

The past couple of months have seen a significant increase in my writing schedule, and yet most of the posts that make this list each month are older posts that seem to gather a lot of attention consistently. Almost all of these posts are from the Foundations Of Youth Ministry series. And, interestingly, my post on Trying A New Bible Reading System, and the follow up post from almost a year later, both made the list together. That tells me that people are clicking through on the links I have in most of my posts.

My favorite post from August was a two part series on How To Take Notes While Reading A Book, and its companion post, How To Take Notes While Reading The Bible. These are something that I have developed over years of reading and study, and I find these methods to be pretty effective. So I decided to share them here so others can benefit.

I’m excited to see what fall brings into my life and into my writing. I hope you stay connected so that you can find out as well. If so, would you consider subscribing so that each new post arrives in your inbox? Or, you can subscribe via RSS as well. Thanks!

Have a great month!

Top Posts For July 2013

With the final days of summer vacation approaching, and fall activities approaching, it seems like the year has simply flown by.

We’ll have a new schedule to adjust to, since my oldest daughter will start her high school years in public school for the first time. We are pretty well settled into our homeschool routine, so this may take some getting used to for a while.

July 2013 Word Picture from Wordle.net

But on the other hand, we’ve been in Cabool, Missouri, for over two months now. We still have some settling in to do at the house, hanging things on the walls, and finding where a few last boxes can be unpacked to. But other than that, we feel like we’ve come home.

That means my writing schedule has settled down as well. I’m finding plenty of time to write the posts I want to write, and have even started thinking about a book or two again. That’s pretty exciting to me.

So, in case you missed them, here are my top seven posts for the month of July:

  1. The Difference Between Purpose, Vision, and Mission
  2. Why You Need To Develop A Philosophy Of Ministry
  3. Trying A New Bible Reading System
  4. My Current Philosophy Of Ministry
  5. 9 Habits You Need To Build Into Your Daily Routine
  6. 11 Things I Love About Field Notes Brand Journals
  7. A Special Q & A With Randy Singer, Author Of The Last Plea Bargain

This month, the lineup changed quite a bit. Some of my most popular posts continue to make the list, like the ones from the Foundations Of Youth Ministry series. But this month, a few different posts made the list, including one from my series on building a daily routine that was written well into the month. Along with several book reviews, that makes a pretty full schedule of posts for the month.

My favorite post written this month is one where I share that I’ll be starting a new teaching series this fall at my church on the first few chapters of Genesis. I’ve also added several posts in my series on the importance of routine.

I’m looking forward to some of the ideas I have planned for the fall. Some will be pretty helpful, and some will be pure fun. Keep a close watch for some of those posts in the near future.

Have a great month!

Top Posts For June 2013

Summer is in full swing, and with it our lives are settling down a bit. Even though we are staying very busy, things are starting to fall into a regular pattern and routine. That’s good.

But there are still plenty of opportunities for excitement. Our church’s Vacation Bible School occurred in June, and it was phenomenal! Plus, my daughter was in a car accident with my mother. Neither was hurt, just shaken up. But it added some extra stress to my life. we’re just thankful no one was hurt.

Now, if we could just finish unpacking…

With things settling into a routine, my ability to find the time to write has grown. I’ve posted more in the past month than I have in the last several. That’s pretty exciting.

In case you missed them, here are my top seven posts for the month of June:

  1. The Difference Between Purpose, Vision, and Mission
  2. Why You Need To Develop A Philosophy Of Ministry
  3. Why A Daughter Needs A Dad
  4. My Current Philosophy Of Ministry
  5. Trying A New Bible Reading System
  6. Floating The Upper Jack’s Fork River
  7. Book Review – Sacred Pathways by Gary Thomas

Once again, some of these posts continue to show up on this list, especially the ones from the Foundations Of Youth Ministry series. I hope to see more of my recent content show up since I have the time to write more.

My favorite post written in June was the flagship post of a series I have planned on the importance of routine. With two elements written already, and several more in the works, I’m pretty excited about this series. I hope that it is a helpful resource for many people.

Have a great month!

Top Posts For May 2013

May was a crazy month filled with packing, loading, moving, unloading and unpacking all of our stuff. Our move from Florida to Missouri went without any problems, short of a tire that needed changed on one of the rental trucks. But even that was an easy fix.

Now, we’re in Missouri, beginning a new ministry, a new type of ministry, and a new chapter in our lives.

Of course, with so much going on, May was a tough month for me to write. I fully expect to get back into the swing of things quickly once we get somewhat settled in our new home and new roles.

In case you missed them, here are my top seven posts for the month of May:

  1. The Difference Between Purpose, Vision, and Mission
  2. Why You Need To Develop A Philosophy Of Ministry
  3. Trying A New Bible Reading System
  4. Why A Daughter Needs A Dad
  5. Floating The Upper Jack’s Fork River
  6. When God Shifts Your Focus
  7. My Current Philosophy Of Ministry

It’s becoming quite regular to see some of these posts, especially the ones from the Foundations Of Youth Ministry series, make this list. I’m glad to see my content has a long shelf life. But I’d like to see more of my recent articles make the list as well. I can see where I need to step things up.

My favorite post written in May was a book review of 7 Men, by Eric Metaxas. I was captivated by the stories in this collection of short biographies, and highly recommend that you grab a copy and read it. You’ll be glad you did!

Top Posts For April 2013

The craziness has escalated for us. If you haven’t yet heard, we are moving back to Missouri in mid-May. I have accepted the call to be the lead minister at the Cabool Christian Church, in Cabool, Missouri.

Needless to say, our days are increasingly filled with packing and wrapping up the details of our ministry here in Florida.

That means that the next few weeks will be a little sporadic for my writing schedule. We still have a long way to go to be ready to load the trucks in less than three weeks, and then the move, and then the unloading and unpacking.

Like I said, craziness.

In case you missed them, here are my top seven posts for the month of April:

  1. When God Shifts Your Focus
  2. The Difference Between Purpose, Vision, and Mission
  3. Why You Need To Develop A Philosophy Of Ministry
  4. Trying A New Bible Reading System
  5. My Current Philosophy Of Ministry
  6. 7 Steps To Defining A Purpose And Vision For Youth Ministry
  7. Floating The Upper Jack’s Fork River

I was very surprised to see that this list is exactly the same as last month, with the exception of the post about our coming change in ministry. My series dealing with developing a vision for youth ministry continues to attract readers, and I’m considering updating it to reflect more than just youth ministry.

April kept us pretty busy. Producing a podcast twice a month for DeliberateDads, our trip to Missouri and the interview there, and finalizing things here has managed to fill our time pretty effectively. The next several weeks will be just as full, including the birthday on one of my kids. We are looking forward to what God has in store for us in the coming days.

My favorite post written in April was a book review of Bodie Hodge’s book, Tower Of Babel. This was an extremely fascinating book, detailing the history of man’s spread over the face of the earth after Noah’s flood. Of course, the post with the most view was When God Shifts Your Focus, announcing our new ministry and upcoming move. While May will probably have fewer posts, at least until we get settled in Cabool, it promises to be just as productive!

Have a great month!

Top Posts For March 2013

Spring has sprung. The weather here on the Gulf Coast of Florida has been pretty nice, and I have the bug to get outside. It looks to me like my MacBook Air and I are going to have some time out by the beach in the coming weeks, writing and taking in this nicer weather.

March 2013 Word Picture from Wordle.net

April and spring means that summer is just around the corner. Summer typically consists of camps and trips, with lots of other events thrown in. It’s a busy season for ministry. I’m looking forward to what this summer may hold.

In case you missed them, here are my top seven posts for the month of March:

  1. The Difference Between Purpose, Vision, and Mission
  2. Why You Need To Develop A Philosophy Of Ministry
  3. Trying A New Bible Reading System
  4. My Current Philosophy Of Ministry
  5. Book Review – A Work Of Heart by Reggie McNeal
  6. 7 Steps To Defining A Purpose And Vision For Youth Ministry
  7. Floating The Upper Jack’s Fork River

Once again, the top four are consistently making this list, along with number six. My series dealing with developing a vision for ministry is continuing to draw a lot of visits, and I have plans in the coming months to expand on some of these posts with several new ideas.

Two of these are new to this list. The seventh slot is a post I wrote after floating on the Jack’s Fork river in southern Missouri in January of 2010. I loved that experience, and saw some incredible scenery that many never see because the river changes during the other seasons of the year. I want to do that again some day…

The month of March saw my focus on writing strengthen some more. I had the opportunity to post several new articles, besides my regular, weekly scheduled items. And, my series on memorizing 1 Timothy has become pretty detailed. I’m toying with the idea of taking these posts at the end of the year and expanding and compiling them into a commentary. That has my heart pumping! Whether that will be an ebook, or something I submit to a publisher has yet to be determined. But I’m excited nonetheless!

My favorite post written in March was a book review of Timothy Keller’s book, Galatians For You. This is the first book in a new series that I’m pretty excited about. As these books are published, I expect to review a few more of them and share them here. Stay tuned for those.
