As a youth minister, the summer was often the busiest time of the year. Even though the rest of the year seemed to be busy enough, the summer always took the prize for being busiest.

When I made the transition to being a senior minister, I hoped that my summers would slow down a bit, and somewhat take on a sense of normalcy. I hoped that I would settle into an established routine that would flow from week to week, and day to day.

Looking back, I wonder what possessed me to dream such dreams.

This summer has been as busy as I’ve ever experienced, and I haven’t even made it to a single week of camp!

Life has thrown a few big curve balls our way this summer. In the realm of ministry, I’ve decided to try to make my preaching even more expositorily focused. That is causing me to take more time to study while preparing my messages. I’ve been to five funerals in the past couple of months, preaching four of them myself. Camp season is in full swing, and Vacation Bible School is right around the corner.

Citizens-WebI discovered a band called Citizens through a friend on Facebook the other day. These guys are from Seattle, and have an incredible sound. If you are a David Crowder fan, you need to give these guys a listen. I’m pretty impressed, and have had this playing all week.

Right now, you can get their latest album free on Noisetrade. I don’t know how long this will last, so if you want it, you’d better grab it while it’s there.

Enjoy this video of one of the songs on this album, called I Am Living In A Land Of Death.

Summer has hit. School is out. Vacation has begun. Camp is in session, and several of my kids are planning on attending this summer. Life is crazy fun and in full swing. And it’s good!

It was a busy month around here. In between all of the normal church and family events, we had three funerals and a trip to Oklahoma packed into the past few weeks.

Add to that the specifics of a new theme and look for this website, adjustments to the front page over on DeliberateDads.com, and a few other things, like studying for my class, it’s been a pretty full month.

However, even though summer is typically pretty busy, I’m no longer in youth ministry, so my camp schedule has been greatly reduced, and I’m looking forward to having something like a normal schedule for the summer. That will be nice.

With the new look of JeffRandleman.com, and a few new features, there will be several new things that will become more consistent around here. For example, each Saturday, I share a quote that I find inspirational. I will continue to post meaningful quotes, but the format will change from an image to something more like this. Also, I will be able to share new books I purchase and books that I’m reading, and that I think you might find interesting. Book posts will look like this. And there will be other brief snippets of info scattered here and there, such as announcements, tips, events, and more!
