I have long been a fan of pens, inks and paper. I love writing instruments of all kinds, and the mediums upon which the written word is found, such as books, papers, parchments, and more.
My passion for words runs deep. And because it does, I was anticipating Modern Printmaking by Sylvie Covey. However, I was somewhat disappointed, not because of the book, but because it did not pique my curiosity like I had hoped it would.
Modern printmaking has flourished in recent years, as it has over the centuries. People have creatively used multiple mediums to print images and designs upon almost every medium. As the world rushes into the digital era, that has continued, although by different means.
This book, Modern Printmaking, is both a technical guide and an inspirational resource, looking at the ways that printmaking has occurred throughout the past and how it continues to flourish. It is a beautiful book, and very informative, teaching the reader a lot about the art of printmaking that they may or may not have already known.
Unfortunately, to my tastes, this was just too much of a stretch. My daughter is very artistic, and this was a hit with her. But since my creativity runs along the vein of the written and spoken word, this was just not that great of a source of inspiration and information for me, personally.
To that end, my opinion is less than it should be, probably, and I wasn’t all that thrilled with the book. I will probably pass the book to my daughter, and she can donate it to her art teacher or keep it and use it herself.
The only problem I had with it is that some of the art seems to be slightly questionable in content. I was not too happy with that, but such is to be expected unfortunately.
